Brand Challenge: Tonic Polish

Tonic Polish Review

Hello readers,
I'm continuing my challenge to myself shop my collection more. For August I picked Tonic Polish as the brand to focus on since I had a pile of untried shades from them growing on my coffee table. Let's take look at swatches.

Taking On Toronto

Taking On Toronto was the VIP polish from Indie Expo Canada 2017. It feature a dark grey-brown base with a strong red shimmer, a sprinkling of copper flakes and some small holo glitters. The formula was a little bit thick though still relatively easy to work with. I used two coats for full coverage here. There is the occasional divot in the finish from the flakies so I recommend top coat for a nice smooth finish. Curio

Curio features a blurple jelly based filled with red to green to gold shifting 'unicorn pee' shimmer. The formula was easy to apply though sheer. After three coats my nail lines still show through. I think in the future I would layer this one over a purple creme. Photos show three coats of Curio with one coat of CND Creative Play top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Poison Rose

Poison rose is a medium mauve pink with a golden sheen and fine scatter holo shimmer. The formula was nicely pigmented and took two thin coats for full coverage. This shade dried down to a satin finish so I added top coat of shine. Photos show two coats of Poison Rose with one coat of CND Creative Play top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Bleeding Heart Sunset

Bleeding Heart Sunset is a glowing purple-leaning berry pink with a soft shift to gold and copper and scatter holo shimmer. The formula was easy to work with taking three coats for full coverage. However, it was so close after two that if you have shorter nails or a less distinct nail line two will likely be enough for you. Rainbow fish features a turquoise base filled with pink flecked shimmer, small holo silver glitters and fuchsia metallic flakes. The formula was easy to work with and took two coats for full coverage. This shade dries to a satin finish so top coat is recommended for shine. Dorothy

Dorothy is a deep teal to blue to purple multichrome. In shaded lighting the blue to purple shift is most prominent. In brighter lighting the teal shade comes out as well. The formula was easy to work and took three coats for full coverage. This dries quite shiny on its own but I added top coat out of habit. Note that this is the 2017 re-release of this shade, though as far as I know there aren't any formula difference between it and the original.
