LynBDesigns Here On Earth Swatches & Review

Hello readers,
I've been eyeing all the variations of multichrome flakies that have come out over the  last few months from various brands.  When LynBDesigns had her last sale and they were marked down to $5 I figured it was a good time to take the plunge.

Here On Earth features a clear base packed with tiny flakies that shift from gold to green.  In shaded lighting tones of pink and copper also come into the mix.  The formula was easy to work with.  I did a tiny bit of dabbing to ensure an even coat since I used it as a topper but it brushed on quite evenly and dried completely smooth.  Photos show one coat of Here On Earth over China Glaze My Way Or The Highway in daylight spectrum lighting.

WingDust Collections Steel Town Girl Swatches & Review

Hello readers,
Today I have the polish that first got me addicted to WingDust Collections to show you.  This is the polish that introduced me to gold leaf flake.

Steel Town Girl features a navy based packed with soft holo shimmer, metallic blue shards and real gold leaf flakes.  The formula was easy to work with and took three coats to become opaque.  Normally I despise shards because I find they don't lay flat, but I didn't have that problem with the ones in this polish.  There was only one that poked up after brushing it on, and it was a easy poke with the brush to get it to lay flat.  Photos show three coats of Steel Town Girl with one coat of CND Super Shiney top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

China Glaze My Way Or The Highway Swatches & Review

Hello readers,
I've been trying to resist buying super similar colours, but when I saw swatches for the China Glaze Road Trip collection I knew that this squishy teal creme needed to become mine.

My Way Or The Highway is a bright teal cream. Unfortunately my camera hated this colour and was convinced that it is more blue than it actually is in real life. To the eye it is a true teal, and leans more green than in the pictures below. The formula was easy to work with. I didn't have any issues with streaking or bald spots that can be a problem with some bright polishes. I used three coats, but you could definitely get away with two careful coats. Also, due to the shiny squishy nature of the polish, if you have any bumps or ridges in your nail beds, I would use a ridge filler or smoothing base coat. Photos show three coats of My Way Or The Highway with one coat of CND Super Shiney top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Femme Fatale Nightsong Grotto Swatches & Review

Hello readers,
I go through phases in glitter filled jelly polishes. Currently I'm in a 'love them' phase and Femme Fatale definitely has lots to choose from.

Nightsong Grotto features a deep teal jelly base packed with blue hexes and dots, green hexes and small red glitter. The formula was really good for a polish with so much glitter. I didn't have to do any dabbing and I didn't have any trouble getting the larger dots out of the bottle. It took three coats to reach opacity which is quite reasonable for a jelly base. It did dry a little uneven due to the larger glitters laying flat on my curved nails, but it didn't feel gritty. I used two coats of top coat to smooth everything out. Photos show three coats of Nightsong Grotto with two coats of CND Super Shiney top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Birchbox Canada March 2015 Unboxing & Review

Hello readers,
My March Birchbox just showed up in the mail so I thought I'd share what I got with you.

The first thing I noticed was the brown box.  In some other unboxings I saw that they got a colourful box that matched the info card.  Not sure why I didn't.  This month's spoiler was that we were getting a beauty blender and solid cleanser.

beautyblender double | Full-size $35
I don't wear foundation, so this isn't a product that I'll get much use out of.  However, it is a high quality product that I know a lot of people were really excited about getting, so I won't complain about it.  It will definitely get used by someone.  Based on the price from the duo pack, this single beauty blender is worth $17.50.

Number 4 Hydrating Shampoo | Full-size $39
Shampoo is always something I can use.  However, I find it a little odd that they would send the corresponding conditioner so that I can try out the whole system.  Based on the full-size price, this sample is worth $4.59.

Mirenesse Matfinity Lip Rouge - Paris | Full-size $29
Hmmm..... This shade isn't Paris, it's New York.  I'm actually pretty disappointed about this discrepency.  Paris is a soft medium pink that I would definitely wear.  New York is a bright warm toned red that would look terrible on me.  I've emailed Birchbox about the discrepancy but haven't heard back yet.  Based on the full-size price, this lippy is worth $7.04.

Update: They are sending me a replacement Mattfinity Lip Rouge in the correct shade, so I'm really looking forward to trying that one out.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concenrate (24-Hour Miracle Cream) | Full-size $16-$28
This sample is tiny!  I have heard good things about this moisturizer through so I will definitely use it up.  Based on the $28 full size price, this sample is worth $1.87.

Joie Folie de Joie Eau de Parfum | Full-size $116
I don't wear perfume, so this sample is wasted on me.  I'll try and swap it for something I can use.  This sample is worth $2.05.

Conclusion
I'm torn on this box.  I'm glad that the total value, $33.06, is significantly more than the $14.95 cost of the box.  However, there are really only two products from it that I will actually use.  Hopefully Birchbox will provide a solution for the lippy colour mix up because I really want to try that product in the shade of Paris. Birchbox costs $14.95CAD per month including shipping.  You also can get $5 towards the birchbox shop each month my reviewing all of the samples you receive.  If you want to find out more check out the Birchbox Canada website.

Update: Now that lippy shade mix up has been sorted out and I'm getting the Mireness Mattfinity Lip Rouge in the shade of Paris, I'm really happy with the box.  It has great value and I'll use the majority of the products.

Happy polishing,

Michelle

Essie Coat Couture Swatches & Review

Hello readers,
Today I have a polish from the new Essie Cashmere Matte collection.  I'm a sucker for a good shimmer so I knew there were a couple from this collection that needed to make their way into my collection.

Coat Couture features a taupey-grey base with a soft blue shimmer.  The formula was a little finicky.  It dried very quicky so you couldn't go over the same spot twice without dragging.  That being said, since it dried so fast you could use thicker coats to avoid bald spots and streaks.  I used two coats to reach a nice opaque finish.  Photos show two coats of Coat Couture without top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.
