Indie Expo Canada Polish Making Workshop

Indie Expo Canada

Hello readers,
A couple of weekends ago I attended Indie Expo Canada.  This was my third time attending IEC, but my first ever time attending the polish making workshop. I had an absolute blast. Today I have my polish creations to share with you.

There were two polish making workshops on the Saturday, each lasting about 2.5 hours. Over the course of the workshop you get to make three polishes. The first follows a general recipe to introduce you to the general tips and techniques. The other two are a free for all and you can make whatever your heart desires using the giant pile of ingredients supplied by Girly Bits Cosmetics and Glitter Unique. You also got to name them and have custom labels printed at the end of the session.

What Recipe?

What Recipe? is my version of the group recipe. I say my version because I tweaked it to lean a little more blue and added white flecks instead of the gold called for.

What Recipe? features a blue leaning teal jelly base filled with red shimmer, tiny silver-white flecks and scatter holo shimmer. Photos show three coats of What Recipe? with one coat of Glisten & Glow H.K. Girl top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

What's In A Name

My second polish was inspired by shades like Girly Bits Sequins & Satin Pants and Slay Belle, but I wanted a blue version. I also couldn't come up with a name in time to print a label, but after getting home I found the lack of name inspiring and ended up going with What's In A Name.

What's In A Name features a clear base filled with fine white shimmer, tiny silver holo glitters, small silver glitters, tiny navy blue glitters, tiny electric blue flakes, small teal holo glitters and small aqua glitters. It's Bluetiful

My third shade was super rushed because all of a sudden time was almost up and I had barely started it. Despite the lack of planning I think it might actually be my favorite of the three. I named it It's Bluetiful. Punny names are the best.

It's Bluetiful features a sapphire blue jelly base filled with fine electric blue flecks and a sprinkling of tiny green to blue to purple colour shifting glitters. Photos show two coats of It's Bluetiful with one coat of Glisten & Glow H.K. Girl top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Final Thoughts

So was polish making what I expected? The actual mixing of ingredients was easier than I expected. Figuring out what to mix in and when to stop mixing in even more ingredients was way harder than I expected. Overall it was so much fun to be a polish maker for a day. If you ever have the chance to attend I highly recommend it. You can find all the announcements and details about next year's IEC on

Happy polishing,

Michelle
