Brand Challenge: Emily de Molly Samples

Emily de Molly swatch

Hello readers,
For this round of shopping my collection, I chose to focus on Emily de Molly; specifically samples. Every so often Emily de Molly holds a sample sale where you can buy prototypes/testers/etc. that are perfectly good polishes that just aren't making it into a full release. I'm a sucker for these sales since they're such a good deal and you often get one of a kind shades.

Sample 440

Sample 440 is a medium bright (but not quite neon) green crelly with green shimmer, small silver holo glitters and orange iridescent flakies. The formula was easy to work with and took three coats for full coverage. It dried down to a matte finish so I added top coat for shine. Photos show three coats of Sample 440 with one coat of Lucky 13 Lacquer Elemental Ward top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Sample 530

Sample 530 is a highlighter yellow jelly base filled with silver flecked shimmer. It is even brighter to the eye than I could capture in these photos. The formula was a tad thick but still relatively easy to work. It took three coats for full coverage, which I'd say is the norm for a neon yellow. It dried down to a satin finish so I added top coat for shine. Photos show three coats of Sample 530 with one coat of Lucky 13 Lacquer Elemental Ward top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Sample 552

Sample 552 is a dark murky grey green linear holo with a strong pink shimmer and tiny purple and blue metallic flakes. The formula seemed a bit sheer on the first coat but built up to full coverage easily in two. Sample 678

Sample 678 features a cream crelly base with a gold to green shifting flecked shimmer and small copper flakes. The formula was quite easy to work with taking three thin coats for full coverage. This dried down to a satin finish so I added top coat for shime. Photos show three coats of Sample 678 with one coat of Lucky 13 Lacquer Elemental Ward top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Sample 663

Sample 663 is ... well I'm not quite sure how to describe this one. Is some lighting the base looks coral, in others orange, sometimes pink and sometimes a warm red. All in all, it's a pink/red/orange base with a strong golden shimmer. The formula was excellent and very pigmented taking two thin coats for full coverage. This dries matte so I added top coat for shine. Photos show two coat of Sample 663 with one coat of Lucky 13 Lacquer Elemental Ward top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Sample 436

Sample 436 features a navy blue jelly base with a fine green shimmer and orange to green shifting flakies. The formula was very easy to work with and took three coats for full coverage. This one dried quite shiny on its own but had the occasional flakie divot so I added top coat to smooth everything out. Sample 407

Sample 407 features a blackened navy base with teal shimmer, and small hex glitters in shades of copper, blue, turquoise and indigo. The formula was quite pigmented and easy to work with. I used two coats for full coverage. It did dry with some bumps due to the glitters but a top coat took care of them. Sample 448 features a sky blue crelly base with a fine green flecked shimmer. The formula was very easy to work taking two coats for full coverage. This dried fairly shiny on its own but you know I love my top coat. Sample 323

Sample 323 features a deep purple jelly with a gold shimmer and a sprinkling of scatter holo. The formula was somewhat sheer and had a rather thin consistency. I ended up flooding my cuticles more than usual as a result. This one could probably benefit from being left open overnight to help it thicken up a little bit. Sample 355

Sample 355 features a cobalt blue jelly base with a strong green shimmer. The formula was a bit sheer and a bit thin. I used three coats for full coverage. This is another one that I hope will thicken up just a little bit with time. Conclusion

My personal favorites from all of the samples are 663, 436, 448 and 355. EdM does shimmers so well. You can find Emily de Molly on
