Hello readers,
Today I have the Illimité Frida Kahlo Collection to share with you. This collection was inspired by the life, work, and iconic style of an artist who defied traditional ideas of female identity and used her art to explore culture, disability and politics. Let's take a look at swatches.
Sun And Life
Sun And Life features a red (cold) to milky white (warm) thermal base filled with small gold glitters. The formula was easy to work with and required two coats for full coverage, though my nail lines do show through it it is completely in the warmest state. This shade dries to a waxy matte finish so top coat is recommended for shine. Photos show two coats of Sun And Life with one coat of Live Love Polish Quick Dry Top Coat in daylight spectrum lighting.
Prickly Pear
Prickly Pear features a purple (cold) to fuchsia (warm) thermal based filled with purple shimmer, tiny bronze glitters and tiny silver flecks. The formula was nicely pigmented and took two coats for full coverage. This shade dries down to a matte finish so top coat is recommended for shine. Bonito
Bonito features an emerald green (cold) to lime green (warm) thermal base with a fine flecked green shimmer in and tiny blue glitters. The formula was excellent and nicely pigmented (especially for a thermal) taking two coats for full coverage. This dries down to a waxy finish so top coat is recommended. Alas Para Volar
Alas Para Volar features a pale blue base with a super fine blue shimmer. The formula was excellent and took three thin coats for full coverage on me. It was so close after two however that two may be enough for some. This shade dries down to a satin finish so you'll want to add top coat for shine. Torzales
Torzales features a black base with tiny silver flecks and tiny holo gold glitters. Though very pigmented, the formula was somewhat thick and started drying so quickly that it was tricky to work with. If I went over the same spot twice in the same coat it dragged. It also dried down with quite a bit of texture for a polish with such small glitters and flecks. I recommend waiting a little extra time between coats to avoid dragging and a good does of top coat for smoothing and shine. Roots
Roots features a clear base filled with pink to copper to gold shifting metallic flakies and small silver holo glitters. Unfortunately the formula was thick on this one making it a little trickier to work with than your average flakie. I think a little thinner would do wonders. I used two coats for full coverage and had no issues with flakies and glitter laying flat. Final Thoughts
My personal favorites from this collection are Alas Para Volar and Bonito. The Frida Kahlo Collection is available now sold as a set and individually. You can find illimité on

Hi, your swatches and explanations are great! I love Alas Para Volar. Sadly, they LiveLovePolish has discontinued the shade. Do you happen to have an extra that you wouldn't mind parting with, or know of someone who does? I'll pay for product and shipping.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't have that polish anymore and haven't seen anyone else selling it.
