Hello readers,
Up until now I thought you could only buy Color Club online in Canada, but it turns out that Trade Secrets carries them in store. Today I have a new limited edition collection to share with you. The Midnight Muse collection features a mix of classic cremes, intriguing shimmers and glitter toppers to mix things up. Get ready for a picture heavy post. Let's look at swatches!
Astro-Naughty
Astro-Naughty is a very pale blue crelly. The formula was easy to work with and took three coats to become opaque. It has quite a squishy finish and is quite shiny on its own but I added top coat out of habit. Photos show three coats of Astro-Naughty with one coat of CND Super Shiney top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.
Martian, Martian, Martian!
Martian, Martian, Martian! is a muted sage green creme. The formula was alright. It did find it dragged a bit when you went over the same spot twice, but it did seem to sort itself out and self-level nicely. It took two coats to become opaque and dried to a shiny finish. Men Are From Mars
Men Are From Mars is a deep burgundy creme. The formula was excellent. I had no issues with application and it took two coats to become opaque. Like the rest this dried to a shiny finish but I added top coat as part of my regular routine. Meteor-Right
Meteor-Right features a deep muted blurple base with a strong copper shimmer that shifts to gold at certain angles. The formula was easy to work and didn't show significant brush strokes in the finish. This took three coats for me, but if you have less distinct nail line or short nails you could do two. Unphased
Unphased features a orange base with a very strong yellow gold shimmer. It borders on a metallic finish but I would still classify it as a shimmer. The formula was great. It had minimal brush strokes in the finish and took two coats to become opaque. Photos show two coats of Unphased with one coat of CND Super Shiney top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.
Many Moons Ago
Many Moons Ago features a mix of white, copper, and violet hex glitters in a clear base. The glitter payoff was really good. However, the medium copper and violet hex glitters are curling and don't lie flat on the nail. While I like the colour combo in this topper, the curly glitters ruin it for me as they leave a bumpy finish even with a generous helping of top coat. Photos show one coat of Many Moons Ago over Men Are From Mars with a thick coat of Girly Bits Cosmetics Glitter Glaze in daylight spectrum lighting.
Cheetah-Me-Not
Cheetah-Me-Not features a mix of black and translucent iridescent hex glitters along with larger black cheetah spot glitters in a clear base. The glitter payoff wasn't particularly good with this one. I had to dab this topper on to get decent coverage and I had to fish for the cheetah spot glitters. Photos show one dabbed coat of Cheetah-Me-Not over Astro-Naughty with one coat of Girly Bits Cosmetics Glitter Glaze in daylight spectrum.
Conclusion
The cremes and shimmers are the winners for me in this collection with my personal favorites being Astro-Naughty and Meteor-Right. The Midnight Muse collection is available now. You can find Trade Secrets on
