Zoya Holiday 2015 MatteVelvet Collection Swatches & Review

Hello readers,
Today I have the six new MatteVelvet shades from Zoya to share with you.  You know I love flecked shimmers so these are right up my alley.  Though Zoya recommends wearing these with no base coat, I used a coat of Duri Rejuvocate because with the weather getting colder and dryer, my nails can use all the strengthening help they can get.

Yves

Yves is a sapphire blue with blue pearl fleck that dries to a matte finish.  The formula was easy to work with for a matte.  I find that with all mattes it's easier to leave more polish on the brush and float it up the nail rather than try for thin coats.  This lets the formula self level for a smooth matte finish.  I used two coats to reach opacity and added a glossy top coat on my ring finger so you can see it both matte and shiny.  Photos show two coats of Yves in daylight spectrum lighting.

Aspen

Aspen is described as a sparkling arctic white with a micronized diamond pearl fleck.  The formula on this one was as expected.  Slightly thicker coats were easiest to work with and it took three coats to become opaque.  If you don't have a distinct nail line two would be enough.  This one was also a little more difficult to remove than the other shades in this collection.  Photos show three coats of Aspen with a glossy top coat on my ring finger in daylight spectrum lighting.

Amal

Amal is described as a classic crimson with ruby red pearl fleck.  This just screams 'Christmas red' to me.  The formula was great like the others, though I did find it a bit easier to get even thin coats with this shade.  Even with thin coats, it only took two to become opaque.  Photos show two coats of Amal with glossy top coat on my index finger in daylight spectrum lighting.

Honor

Honor is an emerald green with emerald pearl fleck.  Another great formula that also went on in thin coats.  Photos show two coats of Honor with glossy top coat on my ring finger in daylight spectrum lighting.

Sue

Sue is a champagne gold with multi-hued oyster shell pearl fleck.  This is a cooler toned gold which I love.  The formula was easy to work with though it was the most sheer of the six shades.  After three coats my nail line still shows through a tiny bit.  Photos show three coats of Sue with glossy top coat in my ring finger in daylight spectrum lighting.

Iris

Iris is a deep amethyst with fuchsia pearl fleck.  This had a formula that required slightly thicker coats to get an even finish.  It became opaque in two medium coats.  Iris has a slightly waxier finish than the rest of this shades in this collection.  Photos show two coats of Iris with glossy top coat on my ring finger in daylight spectrum lighting.

Conclusion

This is a really solid collection.  Whether you are a matte lover or go for a glossy top coat the finishes are very pretty.  My personal favorites are Yves and Iris.  I was also impressed with the wear time of these polishes.  Mattes have a reputation of chipping quickly but I wore these for a couple days before experiencing minor tip wear.  You can find this MatteVelvet Holiday 2015 collection on

Happy polishing,

Michelle
