Femme Fatale Cosmetics Opalescent Collection Swatches & Review

Femme Fatale Opalescent

Hello readers,
Today I have the Femme Fatale Cosmetics Opalescent collection to share with you. This collection features polishes inspired by various forms of the opal stone which means lots of flakie goodness. Let's take a look at swatches.

Cracked Cosmos

Cracked Cosmos features a sheer taupe base filled with orange to green shifting glitters and flakes. The formula is somewhat sheer. I used two coats in these swatches which gave me about 80% coverage. My nails lines still show through, but they aren't glaringly obvious due to the overall neutral palette of this polish. I likely would have reached full coverage in three coats. I found this shade did dry a bit uneven due to the flakies but an extra coat of top coat smoothed them out completely. Photos show two coats of Cracked Cosmos with two coats of Girly Bits Cosmetics What A Rush top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Starbrains

Starbrains features a sheer pale grey base filled with a strong blue shimmer, tiny silver holo  and purple glitters, small white glitters and violet flakies. This was very sheer and even after three coats my nail lines are still pretty visible. If full coverage is what you're after, I'd recommend layering it over a pale blue or pale grey creme. The formula itself was easy to work with and dried pretty smoothly considering there are plenty of glitters in there. I only needed one coat of a thicker top coat to smooth them out. The White Flame

The White Flame features a milky off white base with tiny holo silver glitters, a subtle purple shimmer and lots of iridescent orange to green shifting flakies and glitters. This one was a challenge. The formula was on the thick side and took some work to apply evenly. After three coats it was 90% opaque but dried quite textured with a waxy finish. I needed two generous coats of top coats to get a smooth glossy finish. Photos show three coats of The White Flame with two coats of Girly Bits Glitter Glaze in daylight spectrum lighting.

Celestial Sea

Celestial Sea features a blackened purple jelly base filled with tiny purple glitters and tons of blue to violet shifting metallic flakies. The formula was very easy to work with. Though the first coat applies really sheer, don't worry, it builds up to an opaque squishy finish in three coats. This one dried relatively shiny though I recommend top coat to smooth out the occasional flakie divot. Glimmerbreath

Glimmerbreath features a sheer pale grey, almost white, jelly base filled with a strong green flecked shimmer, tiny holo glitters, and a few sizes or orange to green shifting iridescent hexes. The formula was very easy to work with though, as already mentioned, sheer. I used three coats here and my nail line still shows through a little bit. If you want 100% full coverage I recommend layering a couple coats of Glimmerbreath over a white or very pale grey base. This shade dries to a satin finish with the occasional glitter bump. One coat of top coat smooths things out for the most part, though I used two here for a perfect squishy glossy finish. Conclusion

My personal favorites from this collection are Cracked Cosmos and Glimmerbreath. Cracked Cosmos is such a unique neutral and Glimmerbreath's glowy shimmer is beautiful. Unless you really need that white opal look, I would pass on The White Flame. The formula was just too finicky. The Opalescent collection was a one time pre-order from the Femme Fatale site. However, it is still available from some stockists. You can find Femme Fatale on

Happy polishing,

Michelle
