Lucky 13 Lacquer We Are The Crystal Gems Collection Swatches & Review Part I

Hello readers,
Today I have a selection of polishes from Lucky 13 Lacquer's We Are The Crystal Gems Collection.  These polishes are inspired by the show Steven Universe and feature a wide variety of colours and finishes.  There's bound to be something for everyone.

...And Steven!

...And Steven! features a medium blue crelly base with white flecked shimmer, two sizes of pink hexes and medium yellow stars.  It took me three coats to become opaque.  The formula was easy to work with and no fishing for glitter was needed.  Because of my arched nail beds the edges of the stars did poke up a little so I used a coat of Gelous to smooth them out.  If you have flatter nail beds you can probably skip that step.  Photos show three coats of ...And Steven! with one coat of Gelous and one coat of Nubar Diamont top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Stronger Than You

Stronger Than You features a berry jelly base with deep red and blue shimmer, small silver hexes, pink circle glitters and pink stars.  In brighter direct lighting this polish leans more red but in shaded lighting it gets these gorgeous purple undertones.  I did have some trouble getting the circle glitters on the brush.  They really like to stick to the side of the bottle.  Other than than that the formula was really easy to work with.  It took two coats to become opaque but I added a third to get a darker colour and an extra squishy finish.  Like ...And Steven!, the edges of the stars did poke up a bit on my arched nail beds.  If you have arched nails like me you'll need an extra coat of top coat to smooth them out.  Photos show three coats of Stronger Than You with one coat Gelous and one coat Nubar Diamont top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Cotton Candy Of The Jungle

Fun fact: I helped design and name this polish.  Cotton Candy Of The Jungle features a forest green jelly base packed with white shimmer and an assortment of white and pink glitters.  The formula was fantastic and it took three coats to become opaque.  This one dried completely smoothly and no glitter smoothing was needed.  Photos show three coats of Cotton Candy Of The Jungle with one coat of Nubar Diamont top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

You Can't Rave In A Raincoat

You Can't Rave In A Raincoat features a sky blue crelly base filled with an assortment of neon yellow, blue, pink and red glitters in a variety of shapes and sizes.  The formula was very easy to work with and I didn't need to go fishing for glitters.  It took two coats to become opaque and dried fairly smoothly except for the largest glitters.  Like the previous polishes with bigger glitters, if you have arched nail bed, you'll likely need an extra clear coat to smooth things out but if you have flatter nail beds you can likely skip this step.  Photos show two coats of You Can't Rave In A Raincoat with one coat of Gelous and one coat of Nubar Diamont top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

Conclusion

The surprise favorite for me out of these for was Stronger Than You.  I'm not usually drawn towards reds but the purple undertones in this one make it truly stunning.  If you have your eyes on You Can't Rave In A Raincoat make sure to pick it up soon since this is a limited time polish for the month of September.  The rest of the collection's polishes are available now as well, but are not limited edition.  Don't forget to use the code 'SH20' to get 20% of your L13L order until September 25th, 2015.  I'll have swatches of another three shades from We Are The Crystal Gems up later this week but in the meantime check out Lucky 13 Lacquer on:
