Beauty Box 5 April 2014 Review

Hello readers,
Yesterday I got my April beauty box 5 in the mail and I wanted to share what I got.  We knew from previews that we would get a full size Nicka K New York Hydra Lipstick but everything else was a mystery.  Here's what was in my box.

Bonne Bell Lip Definer | Retail: $3.95
"Perfect for a precise pout, this handy liners keeps lipstick from feathering and makes for a lovely natural look when paired with a clear gloss.  BB5 Tip: staring at the cupid's bow, slowly and carefully outline your lips, then shade in!"
I don't use lip liner so this product is a bust for me.  The shade I got was boysenberry which doesn't really seem to match the lipstick I got (see further down).  Also, Bonne Bell instantly makes me think to my early teens when it was the only brand of makeup I could afford.  Lipsmackers anyone?

Jergens Natural Glow - 3 Days to Glow Moisturizer | Retail: $9.99 4 oz
"Kiss winter goodbye and give yourself a subtle tan that's easy to apply and doesn't leave streaks! We suggest briefly shaking your booty to Beyonce while you wait for the lotion to dry.  If you don't already, that is."
I hate getting foil packets.  At least there's three of them.  Self tanner is another thing I don't use.  I originally thought this was used just like a moisturizer but it seems like you have to let it dry before touching anything.  I don't see myself using this.

BH Cosmetics California Girl Eyeshadow Palette | Retail $18.95 16 Eyeshadows/ 4 Face Powders
"Ideal for your favorite clutch, this little palette is all you need for touchups or creating a soft romantic eye on the fly.  BB5 Tip: upgrade a demure gold and copper look with a pop of moody purple for a little mystery."
This little palette contains one shadow from each of their larger palettes.  It's pretty cute and I know I can use the Hollywood and San Francisco colours.

Nicka K New York Hydro Lipstick | Retail: $4.99 0.12oz
"Pucker up! Lipstick junkie-approved, this hydrating (and paraben-free!) lipstick feel light but delivers luscious, full-bodied color that last through your first cup of coffee, afternoon snack, and even a kiss."
Red.  The one colour I was hoping not to get.  The shade I got was Daring.  I was hoping for any of the pink shades that were showing up in boxes.  Hopefully I can trade for one because overall this lipstick looks really nice.  I especially like the hydrating aspect.

Blum Naturals All Purpose Cleansing Wipes | Retail: $2.49 30 wipes
"Infused with aloe vera, these convenient mini wipes are just the right size to remove eye makeup or correct minor cosmetic mistakes! Plus, they're hypo-alergenic, paraben-free, and not tested on animals."
I will probably use these as eye makeup remover wipes.  I hope they win the battle against gel liner.

Conclusion
Do I think I got my money's worth? Yes.  Am I excited about this box? No.  I went and changed my style profile to natural after getting the bright red lipstick this month.  Hopefully that will put in the more neutral lip color categories for future boxes.  In general I feel like lip liner and self tanner aren't products that are used by lots of people so maybe they weren't the best choices for a beauty box with a wide range of recipients.  Overall though, for the price of the box, you can't really go wrong.  The shadows and wipes will definitely get used.  To find out more about Beauty Box 5 check out their website.

Happy polishing,

- Michelle
