Lucky 13 Lacquer Softening The Bad Things Swatches & Review

A month ago I told you that I would be matching Lucky 13 Lacquer's contribution to NAMI from her limited edition polish, Softening The Bad Things.  Well, the polish went up for sale, the donations have been made and today a package with my very own Softening The Bad Things showed up in my mailbox.  I love that Kyoti accomodated my request for #10, my favorite number (though my lucky number is 13 too!).  This polish has a beautiful light blue crelly base packed with two sizes of gold hex glitter and small bronze glitter.  This colour combo was inspired by Van Gogh's sunflower painting.

Photos show two coats of Softening The Bad Things with one coat of Gelous and then one coat of CND Super Shiney top coat.  You may notice that some of the larger gold hexes have quite the curl to them.  The weirdest part is that only some of them do, about half of them are still perfectly flat or only have the slightest reflective curl.  I got in touch with Kyoti and sent her photos of what the large gold hexes were doing.  She messaged me back right away and between the two of us we can't figure out what happened.  There was only one batch of this polish and it sat for over a month with no problems. Other people don't seem to be having this problem and other swatch photos show glitter that is behaving.  Our only guess is that somewhere on its long journey up to Canada my bottle experienced a drastic temperature shift.  Maybe it sat out in the sun too long waiting to be loaded on a truck?  Who knows.

The important thing here is that Kyoti's customer service was amazing.  She got back to me super quick and we were easily able to come to a resolution that worked for both of us.  Sometimes weird things happen, but when an indie maker stands behind their product and works with the customer to come up with a solution that is what really counts.  Another thing to note is that with two layers of top coat I was able to smooth everything out and I can still enjoy this beautiful polish.  Seriously, just look at it.  I love the colour combination.  I also own many other Lucky 13 Lacquer glitter polishes that have no issues whatsoever, so this one just seems to be a fluke.

Final thoughts?  I think this polish is gorgeous despite that fact that some of my glitters are misbehaving and Lucky 13 Lacquer has great customer service.  I really like that Kyoti considers any issues on a case by case basis instead of having a blanket policy.  So, keeping all that in mind go check out all the gorgeous polishes at https://www.lucky13lacquer.com.  Also, if  you weren't able to get your hands on Softening The Bad Things this time, there will be a second batch released in about a month.  Keep an eye on the Lucky 13 Lacquer facebook page to find out when it will go on sale.

  1. My bottle has some curling large hexes too, but nothing too major. I still LOVE the polish! I just used 2 coats of Seche Vite and I can't even feel the curled ones anymore :)
